The San Joaquin River Club (SJRC) is a private non-profit corporation which was incorporated in 1939. It consists of a 411 acre parcel which is separated into sites and common areas. Some of the sites have houses built on them while others have garages or are vacant lots.
Living in the SJRC is not like living in the city. SJRC Members are strongly encouraged to volunteer their time and skills to help make our community a better place. Various committees composed of volunteers take care of our Club. For instance the Entertainment Committee coordinates special events, the Water & Wells Committee takes care of the water system that serves the Club and the Maintenance Committee helps keep our infrastructure in shape. The list of committees is long and there is always room for more volunteers (see committee tab).
In order to become a member of the SJRC there are specific things that must be done. One of the most important things to know is you must be a US Citizen and have two (2) sponsors who are SJRC members in good standing and have known the applicant for at least one year, are not related and have no financial interest.
Application documents are available in our office for those wanting to apply for membership. Once the documents have been completely filled out, all of the necessary paperwork is submitted and the $150.00 non-refundable fee is paid the processing can begin.
There are several ways to come in as a new member and the cost varies depending on the transaction. If you will be buying a home on an all cash sale your membership will be on the home site. If you will be buying a home on a contract of sale, the seller would likely remain the member on the home site until the contract is completed. In this circumstance you would come in as a new member on a Treasury lot and when your contract is complete you will transfer to the lot that the home is on. If you are coming in as a new member with no home you will purchase a Treasury lot only. Whichever way you apply for membership you must have either proof of purchase, proof of contract or have chosen a site at least 2 weeks prior to your meeting with the Membership Committee.
The SJRC office will send out reference letters and run credit and background checks. When all the paperwork is complete and the reference letters are received by the office staff, letters will be sent to the applicant and their two (2) sponsors notifying them of the time of their scheduled interview before the Membership Committee.
After the Committee has met with the prospective member and their sponsors they will process the information and on the 3rd Saturday of the same month present it to the Board of Directors in a closed session for approval or denial. The perspective member will then be notified by the Membership Secretary of the decision and what they need to do in order to finalize the membership. They have 30 days to finalize the process. If the membership is not made final, at the end of the 30 day period the membership will be void.
There are rules and regulations that govern the activities of the SJRC and its members and guests. Those rules can be found in various documents that you will receive as a new member and on this website in the tab labeled "Forms".
It is strongly advised that prospective members read and understand these rules prior to applying for membership. If you have any questions, please contact the SJRC Membership Secretary at 209-835-1969 or e-mail at [email protected].
